The city of Porto is already looking forward to the anticipated opening of Time Out Market Porto at São Bento train station. Scheduled to open in May 2024, this food paradise is ready to become the new hotspot for food lovers which offers a great variety of gastronomic delights all under one roof.
Culinary experience right at the São Bento station
Set within the stunning south wing of São Bento station, Time Out Market Porto combines tradition with contemporary flair. The market will feature a 2,000-square-meter space designed by the popular Porto-born architect Eduardo Souto de Moura. Moura also included a striking 20-meter-high glass and iron structure that allows guests to enjoy meals in a picturesque courtyard.

The market is set to house 12 handpicked restaurants as well as two bars which ensures a diverse culinary experience. Each establishment has been selected by the Time Out Porto editorial team. This guarantees that only the highest-rated local eateries make their to market at São Bento station. From street food classics to Michelin-starred dishes, Time Out Market Porto will have something to offer for everyone.
From vegan restaurant Fava Tonka to Michelin-starred chefs
Among the initial restaurants announced are Fava Tonka (known for its delicious vegetarian dishes), Meia-Nau (specializes in exquisite seafood) and Okra (celebrated for its authentic Neapolitan pizza). Not to be missed is Tábua Rasa (famous for its sumptuous charcuterie boards), Brusco Burger’s mouthwatering burgers, and the iconic Padaria Ribeira (a Portuguese bakery with a rich history dating back to 1878).
On top of these restaurants, four renowned Michelin-starred chefs will bring their culinary expertise to the market and bring the dining experience on the next level. Besides the culinary offering, Time Out market Porto will also welcome a few retail shops into their concept. Last month, it was announced that the beautiful souvenir shop of A Vida Portuguesa will come back to Porto. With these additions, Time Out Market Porto rounds off the concept and makes it a must-visit destination for locals and tourists.
Time Out Market concept is already successful in Lisbon
Time Out Market’s concept is not new and originated from the brand’s desire to bring its city guides to life. Therefore, cities such as Lisbon, New York or Chicago already implemented the Time Out Market successfully into the culinary city life. Porto is expected to follow and transform São Bento station into not just a travel hub, but also into culinary paradise.
As we count down to the great opening in May (exact opening date soon to be announced), stay tuned for more news and announcements about this exciting concept that promises to enrich the city of Porto.
