The singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran gave a spontaneous performance of his hit song “Castle on the Hill” at Lisbon’s iconic Castelo de São Jorge. Just hours before his headline act at the Rock in Rio Lisboa festival on the 16th June 2024, Ed Sheeran made his way up the historic hill to the castle. Accompanied by sunny weather and a wonderful view over Lisbon, he started playing the guitar and sang his hit song, which could not have been found a better suited place than Castelo de São Jorge in Lisbon.
In love with Castelo de São Jorge
Arriving in Lisbon, Ed Sheeran was inspired by the presence of the castle to sing his renowned track right at one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Lisbon. “I just landed in Lisbon and there’s a castle on a hill here, so there’s only one thing we can do,” Sheeran shared in a video posted on his Instagram account.
The final performance at Castelo de São Jorge was attended by a few lucky visitors who oberseved his performance from another castle tower. However, Ed Sheeran was also accompanied by another guest. A seagull unexpectedly joined in and added a quirky sound to the already memorable performance in Lisbon. With the Instagram caption “Singing ‘Castle on the Hill’ ‘featuring’ a seagull at Castelo de São Jorge in Lisbon before tonight’s show,” Ed Sheeran embraced the authentic moment with humor.
Ed Sheeran leaves great memories in Lisbon
The special moment at Lisbon’s castle was a foreplay to his performance at Rock in Rio Lisboa, where Ed Sheeran took center stage on Sunday night. The festival, which will continue on June 22 and 23 with headliners like the Jonas Brothers and Doja Cat, was already a great success. Nevertheless, Ed Sheeran’s performance at Castelo de São Jorge was definitely a moment to remember and one of the many highlights of his tour.
