For our visit to one of the best chocolate brands in the world, we drove to Aveiro. A few kilometers away from the little Venice of Portugal and located in a calm neighborhood, you can find the factory of Feitoria do Cacao, where Tomoko and Sue produce delicious bean-to-bar chocolates. Our recent visit to this artisanal chocolate paradise only strengthened our admiration for this brand.

Having worked together with Tomoko and Sue since 2020, we were already well-trusted with the concept and delicious taste of Feitoria do Cacao chocolates. However, meeting the two founders in person and getting to know the behind-the-scenes magic firsthand was nothing short of extraordinary.

On our arrival, we were greeted warmly by the chocolate-maker duo and the delicious aroma of fresh cocoa beans charmed our nose.  As Tomoko and Sue led us through their chocolate factory, it was obvious that this wasn’t just a business to them; it was an art form. Every step, from roasting the cocoa beans to the final packaging is precisely managed by this dynamic duo. They passionately explained us how they’ve fine-tuned the roasting process, even diving into the details of finding the perfect temperature for each bean type.

One of the absolute highlights of our visit was trying their recently launched new chocolate bars. Especially, the Pastel de Nata chocolate was a revelation. Due to Sue’s love for perfection, she bakes the puff pastry herself while ensuring that every bite is a harmonious blend of iconic Portuguese pastry and fine chocolate. But also their new dark chocolate from Tanzania combined with sheep milk and without any sugar, was delicious to taste. We love all their chocolates and honestly it is always not easy for us to decide which one is our favourite.

It’s no wonder Feitoria do Cacao has won numerous chocolate awards across Europe. For us, their chocolates rank among the world’s best. Their dedication to craft, quality and innovation shines through each bite.
