On a sunny summer day, we decided to explore the Serralves Park in the heart of Porto. For locals like us who love quiet spots for enjoying the nature, this secret park in Porto is a top choice. We tell you what you can do in Serralves and why the park is perfect for a family trip
About the Serralves Park in Porto
The Serralves Park in Porto is a green space which was designed by the smart architect Jacques Gréber in the 1930s. Thanks to great care by the Portuguese State and the dedicated Serralves foundation, the garden remains a piece of art of its original designer. In total, it covers 18 hectares which means there’s a lot to see and explore. Inside the park, you’ll also find signs of Jacques Gréber’s work as he added lovely touches like water fountains and small lakes to this green park in Porto. And if you like roses, there’s also a special garden just for them.

From beautiful gardens to wild woods and even a quinta (farm), every visitor can find something they love here. Even for kids the park offers a play area and a farm where you can see animals such as dokeys, sheeps and cows. However, these cows are wild cows and we would not recommended to get too close to them.
One of the highlights: The Treetop Walk
When you walk through the various gardens, you can stumble upon art installations from global artists. The gardens which are also called the “lung of the Foz district”, are perfectly combined with the Museum of Contemporary Art. Designed by architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, the museum holds a reservoir of art from evolving artists to global icons.

Moreover, one of our personal highlights was the Treetop Walk. The Treetop Walk is a 260-meter-long footbridge that leads through the park’s woods. It offers visitors a unique chance to appreciate the park’s rich biodiversity from a bird’s-eye view. Apart from the great view, it serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving nature’s wonders. With an aerial and ground-level perspective, the Serralves park in Porto invites all to experience nature in an authentic way. Don’t miss out on this breathtaking perspective because the view from the top is beautiful!
Good to know for your visit
We started our trip with a fifteen minute drive from the city center to the Serralves Park where you will easily find a free parking lot in a quiet and modern neighborhood. To enter the park and to see the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, you have to buy tickets. You can decide between buying a ticket only for the park or for the whole area including the museum. Unfortunately, the prices of the Serralves Park are quiet expensive, but for us the visit was definitely worth it. You can easily buy tickets also in advance following this link*.
