We first discovered Venn Canteen Porto during our semester abroad in the city, and it has been one of our favourite spots ever since. Just a few minutes from Rua Santa Catarina, this small but bright and buzzing vegan restaurant in Porto completely changed the way we think about plant-based dining. If you’re looking for a spot that’s creative, welcoming and incredibly seasonal, Venn Canteen Porto is it.

Weekly-changing menus inspired by the seasons

At Venn Canteen Porto, the menu changes every single week based entirely on what’s fresh and in season. Monika, one of the co-founders and the chef behind it all, creates each dish based on the ingredients she sources locally.

Vegan food in the city of Porto

Her food is vibrant, full of flavour and never overcomplicated. It’s the kind of cooking that makes you pause after the first bite and say, wait, is this really vegan? Yes, and better than most non-vegan dishes we’ve had.

If you’re after a thoughtful vegan restaurant in Porto, where food is made with care and a bit of boldness, this one should be on your list!

A plant-based restaurant in Porto with a community spirit

We also really liked how connected Venn Canteen is to Porto’s local scene. It was founded by Snider, Monika and Julian, and you can really feel their commitment not just to food, but to the city’s creative energy.

That’s why they’ve done collaborations with other small businesses like Glad Chocolate (a local bean-to-bar chocolatier). Furthermore, they regularly host events that blur the lines between food, art, and community.

One collaboration that really stood out to us was their partnership with Sea Shepherd, the renowned marine conservation organisation. As part of this, Venn Canteen reimagined traditional Portuguese seafood dishes in fully vegan form. A creative and meaningful way to raise awareness for ocean protection while staying true to their plant-based philosophy.

Venn Foods: Vegan cooking at home, made simple

During the pandemic, the team also launched Venn Foods – a delivery box service with pre-packed, seasonal vegan recipes you can cook at home. It’s basically their way of bringing fresh, local, plant-based food to people even beyond the restaurant.

We didn’t get to try a box ourselves (yet!), but the concept fits perfectly with what Venn is about: making vegan food more accessible, beautiful and deeply satisfying.

A Porto vegan restaurant we’ll keep coming back to

We’ve visited a number of Porto vegan restaurants in recent years, but Venn Canteen left a different kind of impression. It’s unpretentious, creative and genuinely passionate about what they do.
