Évora is a culinary highlight in the Alentejo region, even if it may not be obvious at first sight. But if you walk through the narrow streets of the old city, you’ll discover more and more unique cafes and great restaurants. Here, are five of the best restaurants in Évora. They all use local and seasonal ingredients, so that you can enjoy the true taste of the modern Alentejo cuisine.

1. Do Largo

The first time we visited Do Largo was on a hot summer day last year. As we really loved the food and the team behind this lovely café in Évora, we couldn’t wait to visit this place again this year. Especially, their delicious and healthy food creations will make your heart beat faster as everything is made with love and high-quality ingredients.

We can highly recommend trying the tuna steak sandwich with their homemade bread and pickles. Moreover, they have homemade cakes, refreshing beverages and gluten free options for breakfast and lunch. Keep also an eye on the daily changing lunch menus!

2. Três Marmelos

Três Marmelos is the perfect place if you’re looking for a romantic dinner or a relaxing evening with some friends. The restaurant is run by three young friends who have a great passion for cooking and would do anything to provide you with a fantastic culinary experience. The dishes are super innovative and are changing according to the season. Therefore, you have a complete menu where you can choose from tasty starters, creative main dishes and delicious desserts.

The flavours of the dishes are surprisingly and unexpectedly fantastic that will surely stay in your memory for the rest of your life. We couldn’t have been grateful enough for getting to know this stunning place in Évora. Tiago, Miguel and Rui are a harmonious team and you can really feel their kindness and positive energy. For us an absolute Michelin-star worthy restaurant with a wonderful dining-experience!

3. Tua Madre

Tua Madre was also on our must-visit list, and we were very happy that we had the chance to try their Portuguese Italian inspired cuisine in Évora. Here, every dish is prepared with love and great attention to detail. Moreover, Tua Madre is working with small organic producers from the Alentejo region such as Amor é Cego. Therefore, it’s not surprising that the dishes convince in quality with a variety of natural and intense flavours.

Besides that, Tua Madre is a great place to try Italian food with local ingredients from the Alentejo and to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere at this farm-to-table restaurant in Évora. For sure, the great team will welcome you with a big and warm smile!

4. Taberna Sal Grosso

We have heard from Taberna Sal Grosso when were in Lisbon at the beginning of this year, but unfortunately, we hadn’t the opportunity to visit this place before. The fact that they have opened at the beginning of this year in Évora made us really curious. It gave us the perfect opportunity for trying out their exciting cuisine, which is a new interpretation of the traditional Alentejo cuisine.
